cervidae by caughtinthehurricane cervidae by caughtinthehurricane
Cervidae - order of deer in latin(thankyou google).
I wanted it to say deer earth, or deer land, but it sounded funny once translated.

regardless, here we have another fantastic quality iphone photo *ahem*

ball point pen, watercolour, and coloured pencil.

design is my own.

This concept is phenomenal. It's whimsical, and the message it sends to me is that animals are more "one with nature" than humans are. I also like how the one antler is parallel to the picture plane and the other is perpendicular.. a wise use of space. You were also very successful in rendering the form of the deer with simple contour lines and subtle value shifts. Bravo!

Suggestions for improvement:
If you're going to make another one of these, or something similar, I would suggest making it a larger size so that you can get the details in there. I would love to be able to see everything you included there, like sharp lines for the stairs, etc.
I would also suggest that you do something with the background, even just a little abstract wash of flat color. It would give you more control over the whole piece. For this piece, I would suggest a light blue, like a sky.

Overall, lovely work. I could even see it as a tattoo design!

this is sooooooo cute and so creative! :la: where did you come up with such a neat idea? I love the deer's eyes and the way his fur flows to each side and I think the trees on his antlers are so cute! :D

Very nice. I like that you drew the slit pupils - not many people do that. I do like the horns - makes me think of 'forest deer' for some reason xD

Excellent idea, I like the colours and structure of the fur. I sort of miss some activity up there though, some small characters waving at us or similar would help bring this effect home even more I think. Just a suggestion of course, this is an idea worth exploring further. :)
